On-device intelligence

Requirements for AI-assisted features

Route-Runner's AI-assisted voice understanding and errand organization use Apple's Foundation Models framework. Processing happens on your device rather than sending these requests to a third-party AI service.

To use these features, you need:

  • iOS 26 or later.
  • An Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro models, any iPhone 16 model, or later.
  • Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.
  • Apple's on-device language model fully downloaded and available. The model may be temporarily unavailable while downloading or preparing.
  • Device and Siri languages set to the same supported language, in a region where Apple Intelligence is available.

If these requirements aren't met, Route-Runner's AI-assisted features won't be available until the on-device model is ready.
